The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (“MAGLA”), established under section 3 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act (No. 34 of 2022), hereby invites qualified local and foreign applicants to submit applications for consideration for the grant of a Sports Betting Licence in Malawi.
This invitation is issued pursuant to section 27 of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, 2022, which empowers MAGLA to issue Sports Betting Licences, and regulation 3 of the Gaming and Lotteries (Sports Betting) Regulations, 2025, which governs the invitation, submission and consideration of applications for Sports Betting Licences.
This Public Notice and any related Request for Proposals (“RFP”) do not constitute a contract, offer, or guarantee of licence issuance and shall not give rise to any enforceable rights against MAGLA.
1. AVAILABILITY OF THE RFP DOCUMENT
The RFP document will be available from 8th June 2026. Interested applicants may obtain the RFP from MAGLA upon payment of a non-refundable fee of K2,000,000 for local applicants and USD1,500 for foreign applicants, and upon submission of proof of payment. The RFP will be issued during working hours from 08:00 to 16:30 hours, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Payment should be made to MAGLA’s account with the following details:

2. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Applicants shall submit complete proposals in accordance with the RFP, including all prescribed forms, supporting documentation and proof of payment of applicable fee. All submissions must be delivered in sealed envelopes clearly marked:

3. CLOSING DATE
Applications must be received not later than 10th July 2026 at 16:30 hours (local time). Late submissions shall not be accepted.
4. GENERAL PROVISIONS
MAGLA reserves the right to:
i) reject any application, or all applications and decline to award any licence pursuant to this invitation;
ii) cancel or amend this invitation; and
iii) vary timelines or requirements and communicate such changes through public notice or written communication.
Applicants shall be subject to fit and proper, financial integrity, beneficial ownership and regulatory due diligence assessments in accordance with the Gaming and Lotteries Act, applicable Regulations and the RFP.
Evaluation will be conducted strictly in accordance with the Gaming and Lotteries Act, Regulations, and the published RFP criteria.
